Last week I wrote about how the theme of Julie Liddle’s “Make a Splash” preschool class played a large role in the children’s artwork; this week provided another perfect example. Julie read Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle. Carle’s illustration style is unique and Julie created a project for the students that reflected that unique style. She used simple materials, coffee filters, watercolors, transparencies, etc. and allowed the students to explore the undersea world through the “eyes” of Mr. Carle. The results were wonderful. The watercolor effect on the coffee filters created unique tie-dyed designs and the students enjoyed the process of overlaying the transparencies while drawing on them with markers to create a layered appearance.
Thank you, Julie, for another riveting class at GRACE. I look forward to the final week to see what the children discover through art and literature.
