amazing new tree project

We always love it when one of our exhibitions leads to greater challenges for an artist. Shinji Turner-Yamamoto, whom many of you will remember for his sublime installation Sleeping Tree in 2008, has just completed another Global Tree Project in Cincinnati. In Hanging Garden, Shinji suspended two trees, one live and the other dead, in the abandoned 19th century Holy Cross Church.   In a concurrent show at the Contemporary Arts Center, he used fallen plaster and other debris from the church for a contemplative installation entitled Disappearances.

Missed the GRACE show? Stop by the gallery for a copy of the gorgeous catalog designed by Shinji with a poetic essay by Sarah Tanguy. And while you are here, don’t forget to pick up a copy of Andrea Tree’s moving documentary film.
