The hard work paid off, big time. After hours of delicate but imaginative installation, Emerging Visions: a sense of place, opened to huge crowds this past Saturday night. People arrived (and arrived and arrived) from all corners of Fairfax County to view the art and poetry of students from Herndon and South Lakes High Schools. The gallery was abuzz with students discussing their own works and exploring other works of art that ranged from photography and video, to paintings and sculpture. If you couldn’t make it over on Saturday, no worries. The exhibition remains on view through April 14. A special program takes place on Friday, April 8 at 7pm when the teen theatre ensemble from Dodgeball Theatre will perform original works that also explore the rich theme, a sense of place. This exhibition exemplifies what GRACE does best, celebrating community through contemporary art.
We know what “a sense of place” means to these artists and writers, what does it mean to you?
